‘Psychology for all’, the successful open seminar series of our Psychology Department, kicked off for academic year 2015-16 with an interesting talk on Ageing by Mr George Pavlidis, PhD Candidate at SEERC and Lecturer at the Psychology Department. The event took place on 2 December 2015 at our main campus in Thessaloniki.
With his insightful presentation Mr Pavlidis George addressed a number of misconceptions about ageing, including that: being older than 50 is accompanied by the catholic decline in abilities, the prevalence of negative emotions, and the dominance of illness. The speaker explored why ageing as a process is not the sum of inescapable routes endured passively throughout life. Rather than that, there are reasons why one should be grateful of being able to age, in a manner that allows to claim one's own life at any age.
The series will continue to host 1-hour talks by different guest speakers specialising in different psychology areas who will be sharing their knowledge and expertise with a varied audience.
